Ladakh’s historical geostrategic significance has not translated into equitable development, despite its extensive size and crucial passes connecting Central Asia, South Asia, and China. Isolated from the rest of India for six months in winter. Ladakh, now a Union Territory (UT), is actively combatting global warming by endorsing sustainable practices like electric vehicles (EVs). The “Ladakh’s Electric Vehicle and Allied Infrastructure Policy 2022” aims to incentivize EV usage, foster innovation, and bolster Ladakh’s position as a pioneer in green transportation. However, additional support might be needed for the swift execution of these initiatives.
In the pursuit of greener transportation, the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC) is collaborating with key stakeholders to advance the adoption of EVs in Ladakh’s local transportation and freight sectors.
The project titled ‘Technical Assistance for Identification of Opportunities and Challenges in Freight Electrification in Leh-Ladakh,” aligns with Ladakh’s sustainable aspirations, aiming to accelerate EV integration, particularly in freight transportation, and contribute to the UT’s sustainable growth.
