Manmohan Singh government was faced with a tricky and embarrassing situation on Wednesday as an indefinite fast started by social activist Anna Hazare against corruption gathered momentum, with thousands joining impromptu protests across the country.Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar , who was criticised by Hazare as being corrupt and hence unfit to be on the Group of Ministers overseeing the Lokpal bill, quit the GoM. The scalp could energise Hazare and his supporters.”We are overwhelmed by the support. People have been calling in from all parts of the country saying they are holding protests or fasting in cities and towns. There is a spontaneous uprising in support for this movement,” said activist Arvind Kejriwal.On some politicians being heckled, Kejriwal said: “We had decided in the morning that anyone is welcome to come and join the fast, but we will not allow speeches by anyone. But the resentment against politicians here is such that the moment they arrived, there was a spontaneous reaction against them. People ran after their vehicles as they left,” Kejriwal said.
