The <em>off-grid solar products<\/em> are\u00a0mostly used for <em>lighting homes and powering mobile phones<\/em> in\u00a0our country. According to a report from\u00a0the <em>Global Off-grid Lighting Association<\/em>, the 100% rural electrification program in India was the primary reason for the decline. Also, the demand for small solar systems (comprising of a solar panel, battery and a light point) was on the rise, hinting towards the fact that\u00a0user consumption and demand patterns are changing. India\u00a0is one of\u00a0the largest markets for off-grid solar products globally. Solar home systems sales crossed 50,000 units for the first time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the <strong>SAUBHAGYA<\/strong> (Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojna),\u00a0household electrification in the country currently stands at 99.9%, and more than 20 million Indians have benefitted from this scheme. The country has the potential <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenworldinvestor.com\/2019\/04\/23\/india-could-save-rs-129-house-month-by-swapping-kerosene-with-a-solar-lantern\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>to save Rs.129\/ house\/ month<\/strong><\/a> by swapping kerosene with a solar lantern.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenworldinvestor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Solar-light-india-village.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-21741\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenworldinvestor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Solar-light-india-village-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Solar light india village\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, <em>solar lantern revenues<\/em> witnessed the steepest fall (also, affected by strict regulations on the import of solar lanterns into India).\u00a0Sales of solar fans also\u00a0halved\u00a0to 15,000 units in\u00a0the first half of 2019 from 30,000 units. These products are, however, on arise at a global level. These <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenworldinvestor.com\/2011\/07\/06\/solar-lighting-in-india-guide-list-of-suppliers-tata-bp-solar-and-productsled-for-home-and-commercial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>off-grid solar lighting products<\/strong><\/a> are contributing to a large extent towards reducing the overall carbon footprint. Not only have these products contributed ~INR 345 billion\u00a0in additional income, but they have also reduced 66.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions globally, since the second half of 2010. In addition, these have also contributed ~INR 740 billion savings in energy expenditure and improved the lives of nearly 280 million people globally. The <strong>solar lantern<\/strong> is the most loved product in\u00a0Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are options for paying for these <em>off-grid solar products<\/em> in installments if a user cannot afford them upfront. The pay-as-you-go business model is also successful\u00a0recording one million unit sales and accounting for 24% of global sales volumes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The off-grid solar products in India witnessed a decline in sales in the first half of 2019.
