India has set up an ambitious renewable energy installation target to meet its growing power needs. As such, different states had also increased their targets and were working hard towards achieving the same. Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were a few of the southern <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenworldinvestor.com\/2019\/04\/08\/india-solar-states-ranking-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>states leading the renewable energy report card<\/em><\/strong><\/a> in India.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, with the new\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/greenworldinvestor.com\/2019\/07\/29\/a-southern-states-crazy-policy-revision-threatens-indias-entire-renewable-energy-sector\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Jagan Reddy government<\/em><\/a> coming into power in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, things have gone haywire. The now AP government claims that\u00a0all the\u00a0renewable\u00a0energy contracts signed in the last five years will need to be renegotiated as they were signed at high prices\u00a0and have led\u00a0to losses for the state-owned power distribution companies. This change has caught the investors off guard. Private developers who had signed power purchase agreements with the state government have been witnessing a fall in their credit ratings\u00a0and also higher\u00a0borrowing costs. ReNew Power also suffered as a result. The company has a huge presence in the state and the 300 MW of assets that are put up for the sale are also located in the southern states.\u00a0Renewable energy\u00a0companies are also facing delayed payments by state utility boards, which has also led to\u00a0working capital crunch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As one of India\u2019s largest renewable energy independent power producers, <strong>ReNew Power<\/strong> engages in acquiring profitable\u00a0renewable energy assets. The company\u00a0had a capacity of over 8 GW of wind and solar power assets across\u00a0India, as of June.\u00a0However, since these companies receive funding to finance receivables rather than to focus on growth, selling these assets could free up some funds to be deployed elsewhere. Like ReNew Power, many other firms such as <em>Mahindra Susten,\u00a0Continuum Wind Energy<\/em>, etc. are looking for active buyers for their\u00a0renewable energy assets.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ReNew Power, one of\u00a0the largest green energy firms in India has decided to put up its 300 MW of solar assets for sale.
