Northrop Grumman the US Defense Giant and the largest US Shipbuilder as well is entering the Offshore Wind Energy Field.With Cape Cod very near to receiving the final approvals for setting up the first Offshore Wind Farm in the USA,Northrop sees a good opportunity.Shipbuilders around the world have recently entered the growing Green Sector of Offshore Wind.Korean Shipbuilders like Hyundai,Samsung<\/a> have already set up Wind Turbine plants.Northrop on the other hand will team up with Gamesa to explore the Wind Energy field in the United States.Note Shipbuilding Industry is facing tough times with overcapacity and competition from Asian Players.Its critical for shipbuilders to look for newer greener pastures and Offshore Wind Energy is the best positioned space for them.It requires heavy industrial engineering and offshore operations both of which at shipbuilders excel at.<\/p>\n

Gamesa looks to China and USA to turnaround its sinking fortunes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gamesa like other Wind Energy Stalwarts like Vestas <\/a>and Suzlon <\/a>has been hit hard by the developed market slowdown in 2010.Its stock price has taken a massive beating with Wind Turbine orders drying up.The company is trying to shore up its Wind Business through new opportunities in China and USA.Gamesa will form a JV with Gruman Shipping for installing the first G11X- 5.0 MW in 2012.It is also looking to develop new higher MW Turbines by the 2014 time frame.Note Offshore Wind in the USA has a huge potential though regulatory and other bottlenecks have held it up.Europe and Asia have been rapidly developing this industry.UK has installed the largest offshore wind farm recently while China is developing a large offshore wind farm off Shanghai.<\/p>\n

Gamesa and Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding join forces in offshore wind technology – Eolic<\/a><\/h4>\n

Gamesa, a global technology leader in the wind energy business (through its U.S. based subsidiary), and the Newport News Shipbuilding operations of Northrop Grumman Corporation, a leading American defence company and America\u2019s largest shipbuilder, have signed an agreement to work together on offshore wind technology.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>Gamesa and Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding said they are setting up an initial team of as many as 40 engineers in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia over the next month. This highly skilled team will perform all of the preliminary work required to install in the US the first Gamesa G11X-5.0 MW offshore prototype by Q4-2012, including site selection, permitting, final construction and installation of the prototype and testing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
