The country has set up an aggressive renewable energy installation target by 2022 and has become one of the top ten countries in the world to utilize solar power with full zeal. In order to make this goal achievable, the country needs to install storage capacities as the main issue with solar power is its intermittent nature. One can easily utilize the solar power stored during the day for work at night.

Why is Storage the immediate need for India now

i) A rapid rate of adoption of solar power on a large scale

ii) Evolving technologies like floating solar and electric vehicles

iii) Higher power tariff bills for the industrial and commercial sector

iv) Increasing levels of air pollution in the country

India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. However, rapid commercialization and industrialization have led to an increased carbon footprint for the country. In order to make clean energy more usable in India, storage capacity is the only answer.

Today, renewable energy sources of power have attained grid parity in India. As such, it is becoming more and more affordable, and people and industrialists have started to consider renewable energy as a viable option. The country has embarked upon many new plans for total electrification of its households which will demand grid independence either partially or fully (in areas not connected with the grid). All these initiatives would require energy storage solutions or batteries to be viable. Solar plus storage tenders have now become a common trend in other countries like the US.

India has been making rapid strides towards alternative sources of energy like wind and solar.
