India has been quite vocal about its solar ambition, with the country aiming at installing 100 GW of solar capacities by 2022. <a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/india\/1519929\/india-will-add-a-record-level-of-solar-power-capacity-in-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to a new report by Bridge to India<\/a>, the country is set to march aggressively towards its solar target with expected installations of <strong>14 GW\u00a0in 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If achieved, India will reach\u00a0a total installed solar capacity of about <strong>38 GW<\/strong> by the end of the year. Large scale\u00a0clean energy projects are expected to drive\u00a0<em>16 GW of clean energy capacity<\/em> in 2019. Out of this projected\u00a0number, large scale\u00a0solar projects would account for nearly 11 GW and wind energy projects will be ~2.3 GW. To achieve this target,\u00a0central and state governments have been auctioning <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenworldinvestor.com\/2011\/03\/02\/list-of-top-powerelectricity-companiesutilities-in-india-growing-exponentially\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>tenders to build large-scale solar projects<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenworldinvestor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/ElectricGrid.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9496\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenworldinvestor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/ElectricGrid.jpg\" alt=\"ElectricGrid\" width=\"450\" height=\"293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iiec-india.org\/greenworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/ElectricGrid.jpg 450w, https:\/\/iiec-india.org\/greenworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/ElectricGrid-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/iiec-india.org\/greenworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/ElectricGrid-115x75.jpg 115w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width:767px) 450px, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Last year was mired\u00a0in various issues like <em>low tender activity, doubts around GST and imposition of safeguard duties.<\/em>\u00a0With MNRE announcing plans to issue\u00a0tenders for 60 GW\u00a0by March 2020, the momentum is gradually returning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">India is slowly accepting rooftop solar installations, mainly in the commercial and industrial space given their\u00a0high conventional power tariffs. Not only\u00a0rooftop but floating solar installations are also gathering pace. New floating solar tenders worth 5 GW are expected to be floated by the government in 2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/energy.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/renewable\/solar-power-cost-will-fall-to-rs-1-9-per-unit-in-india-by-2030-teri-study\/67972162\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to TERI<\/a>, the cost of\u00a0solar power\u00a0generation in India is also set to fall to as low as <strong>Rs 1.9 per unit through 2030<\/strong>. Technology advancements will lead to lower the cost of wind and solar, which is projected to be between Rs 2.3-2.6 per kWh and Rs 1.9-2.3 per kWh, respectively.\u00a0 The <strong><em>cost of storage is also expected to decline by\u00a0nearly 70%<\/em><\/strong>, which should boost the rate of solar adoption in the country and support the grid by taking off some load.
