The Company has an installed generation capacity of 8521 MW in India. It is estimated that Tata Power&#8217;s\u00a0generation through wind, solar and hydro energy is almost 870 MW.\u00a0Tata Power in order to meet its renewable energy requirement, plans to add <strong>150-200 MW of wind energy<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>30-50 MW of solar power<\/strong> in India every year.<\/p>\n<p>Tata Power has been quite ambitious with its Renewable energy plans. It is one of the greatest Solar Power companies in India with a total operational capacity of 28MW. It is also not behind in Wind generation, with an\u00a0installed capacity of 397 MW. The solar projects includes\u00a025 MW Mithapur Project Gujarat, 3 MW at Mulshi Maharashtra and some rooftop solar installations. Some of its wind power projects are\u00a0Samana &#8211;\u00a050.4MW, Khandke, Maharashtra &#8211;\u00a050.4 MW. These projects are\u00a0registered under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) program of the UNFCCC. As of\u00a031st March 2013, the total generation from the solar capacities is approximately 50 MUs and from wind projects is 796 MU\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tatapower.com\/media-corner\/pressrelease-2013\/press-release-28-may-2013.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tata Power<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Mr Anil Sardana, Managing Director, Tata Power\u00a0said<em>,\u00a0<\/em>\u201cOur solar and wind energy assets are performing well and we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint through \u201cclean and renewable energy\u201d generation. Our aim is to have 20-25% of our generation portfolio from clean energy.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">Most of the power plants being built in India are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenworldinvestor.com\/2011\/04\/11\/coal-advantages-and-disadvantages-pros-of-coal-winning-despite-dangerous-cons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coal<\/a> dependent, with the power providers aggressively buying up coal mines in Indonesia, Australia and South Africa to increase fuel security. In case of any global disruptions, India remains very vulnerable. However India\u2019s policymakers are sleeping on this issue. It makes more sense to concentrate on those sources whose fuel security is high such as solar and wind power. Coal also faces the prospect of high carbon taxation as global warming becomes acute. Environmental issues related to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">power plants has already resulted in some being halted\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">as local citizens agitate against the thermal plant\u2019s negative effects on livelihoods and health.
